2025 Volkswagen ID.Buzz vs. Mercedes-Benz EQB Comparison with Price, Specs, & Photos

The Volkswagen ID.Buzz is a unique vehicle in today’s automotive market, an electric microbus that raises the bar on practicality for the whole industry. Its excellent drivability and retro good looks further set it apart from the competition, but it is still true that the ID.Buzz isn’t the only 7-seat electric vehicle on the market. Most are quite a bit more expensive than the ID.Buzz, but the Mercedes-Benz EQB actually comes pretty close. So to demonstrate just what makes the ID.Buzz unique, we broke down the key differences between the two.

For this comparison, we chose the two trims that were closest in price, so you can best see what you get for the money. To start with, the ID.Buzz offers quite a bit more power, and while the kind of lower power output you see in the EQB often means better range, it doesn’t here. The reason for this is simple, the ID.Buzz has a significantly larger battery, yet it still charges up to 80 percent capacity on a DC fast charger quicker than the EQB. With that huge torque advantage, it’s very easy to see why the ID.Buzz has a higher towing capacity than the EQB, although it’s still a bit surprising that the Mercedes isn’t rated for it at all.
The ID.Buzz is roughly 10 inches longer than the EQB, but the difference in interior space is far greater than the exterior dimensions imply. The ID.Buzz offers more than double the cargo capacity of the EQB, and far better rear legroom. For third-row rear legroom in particular, the ID.Buzz is absolutely unbeatable. And best part is, you lose no maneuverability at all for all of that extra space, as the ID.Buzz has a slightly tighter turning circle than the EQB as well. And in case you were thinking that, since Mercedes-Benz is a luxury brand, that the tradeoff for the lack of utility would be better standard equipment, that’s not quite the case. It comes with smaller wheels for one thing, and this while the ID.Buzz already has a significant style advantage. Heated seats, a pretty basic luxury feature, are standard on the first and second rows of seats in the ID.Buzz, along with a heated steering wheel. None of that is standard in the EQB, and heated 2nd-row seats aren’t even an option until you get into the higher trims. Lastly, both vehicles offer cabin preconditioning, to get the interior up to a comfortable temperature before you set in. But the EQB, possibly as a consequence of having such a smaller battery pack, can only use this function when plugged in.

Winner - Volkswagen ID.Buzz
The ID.Buzz is big on utility and practicality, but the days when you had to give up other attractive features in favor of those things are over. The ID. Buzz also offers a lot more power, as well as more and better creature comforts, at roughly the same price as the EQB. And on top of all of that, you can’t buy an EV with more space for third-row passengers. All of that retro-cool styling is no gimmick, the ID.Buzz is as much of a game changer as the original Type 2 Bus that it resembles, and even just a glance at the competition shows why.
