2025 Volkswagen ID.4 vs. Volkswagen ID.Buzz Comparison

Volkswagen’s newest models seem at a glance like they’re quite similar, both are electric, built on the same platform, with names that strongly resemble one another. One might even think they’re different versions of the same vehicle, but the truth is that these two vehicles are very different from one another, and a guide to the differences is helpful to have.

|
|---|---|---|
| 2024 Volkswagen ID.4 | 2025 Volkswagen ID.Buzz | |
| $39,735 | Starting MSRP | $59,995 |
| 5 | Seats | 6 |

| 64.2 cubic feet | Maximum Cargo Volume | 145.5 cubic feet |
| 180 inches | Exterior Length | 195 inches |
The ID.4 and ID.Buzz are entirely different categories of vehicles, with the ID.4 being classified as a compact SUV while Volkswagen classifies the ID.Buzz as a bus. That classification is intended to harken back to the original Type 2 Bus that originally rose to popularity in the US during the 1960s, rather than a big yellow school bus, but the ID.Buzz is quite roomy nonetheless. Beyond just offering two more seats, the ID.Buzz has a huge interior, one that rivals the interior volume of the biggest 3-row SUVs, yet it is only 15 inches longer than the compact ID.4. But don’t think that just because the ID.Buzz is so much bigger that the ID.4 isn’t a standout in its class for interior space.

|
|---|---|---|
| 2024 Volkswagen ID.4 | 2025 Volkswagen ID.Buzz | |
| RWD with available AWD | Drivetrain Layout | RWD with available AWD |
| 201 or 335 | Horsepower | 282 or 335 |
| 291 miles | Range | 263 miles |
| 82 kWh | Battery Size | 91 kWh |
| 30 minutes | DC Fast Charging Time | 26 minutes |
Since they are built on the same platform, the drivetrain is one area where the ID.4 and ID.Buzz are fairly similar, although there are a few differences in the details. Both come with a standard rear-wheel drive configuration, but with the option to add a second motor for more power and all-wheel drive. With dual motors, the two produce the same horsepower, but the bigger ID.Buzz comes with a bit more standard power to handle that extra weight. Since it’s smaller and lighter, the ID.4 is more efficient, getting a bit more range out of a slightly smaller battery. But bigger batteries tend to charge a bit faster on DC power, so the ID.Buzz has a slightly shorter charge time with a fast charger, although the smaller battery in the ID.4 will reach a full charge on a home AC charger a bit quicker.
Volkswagen ID.4 VS ID.Buzz - Equipment

The ID.4 and ID.Buzz are offered with similar equipment, with the ID.4 being offered in six different trims and the ID.Buzz coming in a choice of five trims. With the different number of trims, most don’t directly correspond with one another, but the top trims of both vehicles offer nearly identical equipment. This makes it easier to choose, since you can focus on which vehicle type is the one you need, rather than what features they come with. For those who need the seats and the space, the ID.Buzz is the obvious choice. But for those who don’t, the lower starting price and more efficient drivetrain of the ID.4 is a logical alternative.
